Getting Into Coding

As I have talked about through my previous blogs, it can be tough to code. Especially learning on your own. I have personally taken a decent amount of classes relevant with Java, JavaScript, CSS, Python, and C++. These courses got me introduced to what coding was. I wouldn’t say I learned most of my knowledge from these classes, but they gave me the best understanding about the information that was needed.

I learned most of what I know from trial and error, from being in my room and spending hours trying to watch tutorials or working through websites that go through different coding aspects. One that has helped me a ton is w3schools.com. This website goes through so much code that is relevant to what you will need to actually write code. This is where I spent most of my time.

Another way I learned a lot is by actually watching YouTube videos. The videos that I watch are usually tutorials about how to build a certain program. It’s really neat to see what other people are doing and how they write code, because code can be written in many different ways. It’s rare to see the same code twice.

The best way I have learned to get programming done and into your brain is not by any of these methods. The best method that I have learned is by just doing it. Like I know it sounds so simple, but it’s true. You need to learn for yourself how code works, and the best way to do anything is spending hours upon hours failing and succeeding at something. It’s the same with coding. YouTube will only get you so far.

Obviously you will have road blocks when you are coding. You probably won’t know how to do some things. This is the point when you turn to the internet for questions, or someone that is also programming. But, It is all part of the learning curve. This is a humbling job, because one day you will be writing a ton of code and just flying through it. The next day you change one thing, and everything brakes in the code. Then it takes days to figure out a way around it or fix it.

This is all part of the process of learning. Every time you mess up, it just helps you out for the future. I fail a lot, I don’t know everything and neither will you. The top programmers in the world don’t even know everything. There is a big community of people out there that are willing to help you get through hard situations. It’s good to reach out to those people willing to help.
