There are a lot of movies/Tv shows that display coding or hacking as a very easy and colorful thing. Examples of these movies are, Jurassic Park, Hackers, The Matrix Reloaded, the Social Network, Tron Legacy, 007: Skyfall, and most Marvel movies. These movies give unrealistic expectations of how hacking is actually done. Coding is a very time consuming thing that isn’t completed with a few clicks, it takes hours if not days to make something work how you want it too. Also the hacking that is demonstrated in movies doesn’t show enough of the scene to actually show it correctly.

In these movies, there is so much coding passing through the systems that the user (Hacker) wouldn’t even have enough time to process the amount of information displayed. It would be very hard to understand and crack this information. The code that is passing through the system are usually critical, and this information would be difficult to process. Most of the time when you see these movies, it shows a computer cracking into a computer system, from one computer to another miles away. This is possible, but the way most movies do it, it would need to be done by breaking into the actual computer you want to hack into, you would need to literally turn that computer on and break into it from that location. Hacking is a more intricate than movies give credit for. Some of the best hackers in the world are unknown because they know how to keep themselves hidden. Movies make it seem like you just need to push a specific key and like 10 screens will pop up with information. That’s not true at all.

Most of the time you would just use a command terminal to hack. A command terminal is a better way to navigate around computers. Some hackers in movies look like they are typing about 50 commands a second. This is actually false. They are most likely using a specific CGI program that is similar to the website https://hackertyper.net/ . This website makes you look like you’re a real Hollywood hacker. But in reality it is nothing, it doesn’t even function. It’s all for looks.
I think most of these movies make hacking out to be this intense process that is extremely unique environment, but in reality its a very software dependent world. It seems easier for the looks and making you think that the people doing it are super smart. But, it’s just not realistic in most cases. I would say that there are few times where it is real world type of hacking.
