Where Is Coding?

How Does Coding Help You Every Single Day?

Every day, you pick up a phone, use a computer, or simply just play with a toy. Each time you do this, you are just proving the point that coding is everywhere. So when it comes to talking about how it helps you every single day, it’s pretty easy to see.

For instance, the entirety of your cell phone’s functionality is running off of code. Operations are going on every time you touch the screen. The touch is triggering a bunch of commands in the background that is telling the computer inside to do certain things. This is done with thermal detection on the screens that are triggered by the human touch. This touch is essentially the same thing as a computer mouse clicking on the screen.

Another way to look at coding in the phones or on a computer is by looking at the updating processes. Every time you get an update, the device is adding a bunch of new code that is being implemented into it, these updates are lines of code that are adding features or fixing problems within the phone. A lot of updates are simply “bug fixes”, which are very common. A bug is an unintended side effect that happens due to the way the code was written. These are critical to keep technology running smoothly for the end user.

But, where else is coding helping you? Well, that’s quite simple. Almost everything you touch on nowadays is either made by coding or has code in it. Just look at your car, there are programs written in most cars that are passing information on for it to do certain things. For instance, the Tesla cars or any electric car are all coded because they are computer-based vehicles. These vehicles are dependent on the structure of the code to work correctly or lives may be at stake.

But even further down the line we can talk about any plastic toy you’ve ever got from McDonald’s as a kid. Those toys were made in a factory somewhere, and those factories have assembly lines that are automated with machines. All of the machines have code inside of them that tell them to do certain actions to make sure the toys all function and look the same. There is a wide range of tools or toys that you use daily. I can pretty much guarantee each of those things were made with code inside of it or was made from something that had code in it.

Our world is very tech-savvy, so, it’s important to stay up to date and know how and why everything works. So, by starting somewhere, and knowing how this code works and where it’s at around you, you can start to see things more clearly and start asking better questions about the world around you. There is a lot of freedom that can be expressed through code, and I encourage you to try to find some of that.
