What Is Coding?

What Is Coding, And How Does It Run Your Life?

Coding can be a very complex concept. By definition, coding is the process of designing and building an application that can be executed for specific tasks within technology. For this post, I want to explain coding on a level that everyone can understand and show you that you use code every single day. So, think of coding as being the structuring of computer programs. You might log onto a computer and not even know how that worked, but many operations are going on in the background that you didn’t even realize. When you click into an app, there is a thing called a GUI (Graphical User Interface). This GUI is the nice shiny part that people see, its the images, words and buttons that pop up with colorful text. But, behind the GUI is working code that is making programs operate and do commands that you are giving it.

This code is what makes all the apps or programs you’ve ever been on, function correctly. Every single day you are using code that is created by a “programmer.” These applications that you use have taken months upon months to make. Coding or programming can be a very tricky task. So you might be asking, what does coding look like? And that question will be answered in future posts, but for now I will explain how code looks.

So first you must know that coding is done in many different ways, and learning coding can take a long time. I will start by telling you that there are different programming languages to do specific things. Some of the languages I’ve worked with are Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript. These are some core languages, some are easier to work with than others, and some are used for specific tasks. The process of being able to create anything you want to be executed on a computer can be a very powerful tool. You can use basic laptops or desktops to write these codes on, it doesn’t take a big machine to make programs. For me, the joy of being able to create something that was once in your mind and put it onto a computer is a very cool experience. But it can be hard to figure out and fix certain bugs, which are problems within the code. But once you create it, you can express your mind.
